Sights of Uralsk

From the history of the city, in 1584 a settlement was founded by fugitive peasants and Cossacks on the banks of the Yaik River, later it received the status of a city in 1613. Trade and merchants played an important role in the life of the city. In 1846, Uralsk was recognized as a major city and was considered a large shopping center. Until the beginning of the 20th century, the city of Uralsk was the administrative center of the Ural region, part of the Orenburg province. Today Uralsk is the administrative center of the West Kazakhstan region. It is located on the right bank of the Ural River and on the left bank of the Chagan River. Today Uralsk is more than 400 years old.

Among the attractions of Uralsk one can note the variety of museums. In Uralsk there is the Emelyan-Pugachev Museum, the Manshuk Mametova Museum, the Museum of Nature and Ecology, and the Regional History Museum. The Regional Museum of History and Local Lore was founded in 1836 and is one of the oldest museums in the Republic. The real decoration of the city are the old temple buildings: the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, which was erected in 1857, and the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, which is considered an architectural monument of the 1th century.

 The Urals are also proud of such old buildings as the house of the Vanyushin merchants; the building was built in the 70s of the 19th century. Today there is a school here.

Very beautiful buildings of the former fire station Mikhailovskaya and the building of the regional akimat, they are also a landmark of Uralsk.

 A landmark of Uralsk is the only surviving gazebo, the Ural Rotunda, a monument of landscape architecture of the 19th century.

The convent was built in 1999 and is made of wooden frames in a very original style.

St. Michael the Archangel Cathedral in Uralsk is one of the ancient landmarks of the city, which today is a real decoration of the city.

The city has erected many monuments to outstanding people, including a monument to A.S. Pushkin, a monument to Abay Kunanbaev, a monument to V.I. Chapaev and many others.

In Uralsk today there are already many modern buildings that are considered a landmark of the city: the Kazakh Drama Theater, the Ice Palace, and the new mosque. The real decoration of Uralsk is the memorial “the glory of these days will not cease” and the memorial complex on the banks of the Urals.
