45 thousand pets are microchipped in Almaty

Almaty has prepared and already presented a project to regulate the number of stray dogs and cats. The program provides for some initiatives for castration and sterilization of domestic animals, for which the state has allocated 50 million Kazakhstani currency. For a pet to live happily, its owner must take care of this, and the Kotopes pet store will help with this, where everything they need is sold.

Microchipping of pets

Almaty is seriously worried about the number of stray cats and dogs roaming the streets in search of food and shelter. It was decided to fight this more seriously, and, according to the authorities, microchipization of pets will help. By 2024, the city plans to microchip at least 45 thousand animals. Thanks to this measure, throwing a pet out into the street will no longer be so easy, and if a family pet is lost somewhere by accident, then the chances of finding it increase significantly. The data will be stored in a special Pet Control database.

Aigerim Zhaksylyk, who is the head of the veterinary department of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Investment of the city of Almaty, said that when an animal is caught on the street, it is immediately sent to a temporary detention center, where it is thoroughly examined and also checked for a chip. Next comes Pet Control, where you can find the owner of a lost dog or cat, and contacting him is a matter of technology. For improper care of an animal, it is worth recalling that there is liability under Article 408.

Sterilization and castration

By the same year 2024, this procedure is planned to be performed on 28 thousand pets. As practice shows, it is the animals that have not undergone this procedure that are most often lost.

President of the public foundation Yulia Kovalenko noted that there are very few sterilized animals in Kazakhstan, and this is mostly due to the far-fetched fears of the owners. So, they are sure that a cat or dog’s body will function normally only if it produces offspring. There are statistics: about 85% of stray animals are either former pets, or they are lost, or are on their own.

By the end of 2021, it is planned to castrate and sterilize about 4 thousand domestic animals, and this will be done free of charge, since the state has allocated 50 million tenge as part of the program. In addition, animals will be vaccinated against rabies, and shelters will also be actively supported.
