"Karatal Sands"

“Karatal Sands” is a state botanical reserve of republican significance. Located in the East Kazakhstan region, Zaisan district. Aygyrkum Desert. The reserve occupies an area of ​​1300 hectares. The area occupied by sea buckthorn reaches 1211 hectares. Sea buckthorn grows here like nature4glow-growing and large-fruited, weakly and strongly prickly. All forms are objects of breeding work. In the state botanical reserve "Karatal Sands" there are rare species of vegetation; among the red books, variegated poplar, twig grass, and turf onion grow here. From the animal world, mainly ordinary representatives of the desert: hare, fox, wolf, wild boar, badger. Of the reptiles, the ocellated foot-and-mouth disease and the striped snake are listed in the Red Book. Mammals are represented by rare species of three-toed dwarf jerboa, hamster and yellow pied jerboa. Mentioning the three-toed dwarf jerboa, it is impossible not to dwell on this miracle of nature; it looks like a small walnut, and the dimensions of an adult jerboa correspond to the following parameters: body length - 54 mm. tail 101 mm. average body weight -9 grams.

 The relief and climate in the Karatal Sands reserve corresponds to the desert and semi-desert territory of Eastern Kazakhstan, cold winters and hot summers. Since April 6, 1978, the territory of “Karatal Sands” has been considered a state botanical reserve and is protected by the state.
