Kaskelen Gorge

The Kaskelen Gorge has many mountain spurs, crevices and depressions. It can be considered the largest in Trans-Ili Alatau. The Kaskelenskoe gorge borders in the West with the impassable Chemolgansky, in the East with Aksai.

The absence of glaciers and snowy peaks affects the dry climate in the area. The Kaskelen Gorge is located in the western chain of forested spurs of the Trans-Ili Alatau. In order to get to the Kaskelensky Uchele from Almaty, you need to move west through the village of Kamenka in the direction of the village of Chemolgan - Bishkek, the road will be very picturesque, going near the mountains. After 20 km beyond the bridge over the Kaskelen River the road will turn into the mountains

to the Kaskelen Gorge. In the floodplain of the river you will see gardens and dachas; the clearest cold water flows in the river. Then you can move along a flat road that leads to the former pioneer camp “Electron”. Even higher is the Kaskelenskoye forestry. And then the road from the river floodplain goes out to the eastern slope of the gorge, where there is a small lime plant, next to a limestone quarry. When you get to the barrier above Izvestkoye, near the forester’s house you will have to pay for outdoor recreation, the amount is small depending on the number of people who want to visit the gorge. Well, there is something to admire here; there are young spruce trees 30 to 50 years old. Schrenk spruce grows well on shallow rocky soils. Vacationers like to take pictures against the backdrop of a huge stone, which is located on the very crest of the side ridge, above the nursery. In composition, it is a gray granite stone that weighs more than 500 tons. The right slope of the foothills of the gorge is wooded, apricots and hawthorn are found in abundance here, and in May you can pick mushrooms. Beyond the Kaskelen Gorge, the Trans-Ili Alatau continues to the west for another hundred kilometers.
