From the history of the creation of the skating rink. The initial construction of the sports complex began in 1949; before that, there was a kumiss clinic in the building of the former Forest School on Medeo. The first all-Union competitions took place in 1951. Until 1970, the skating rink operated on natural ice. The construction of the skating rink was declared a Komsomol construction project and more than 1300 people participated in the construction. The road was built by personnel of the 146th separate road construction brigade of the road troops of the USSR Armed Forces. In 1972, an artificial ice skating rink was built and the grand opening of the skating rink took place. Architects and engineers were awarded the USSR State Prize in 1975, and L.I. Brezhnev personally visited the skating rink. During the period from 2001 to 2009, the skating rink was reconstructed twice. During the reconstruction, most of the engineering structures were replaced. And now the Medeo skating rink is a modern sports complex that has no analogues in the world.
