Alma Arasan Gorge

Alma-Arasan Gorge is a picturesque mountain gorge, a favorite vacation spot for Almaty residents, located in the southwest of Almaty. The gorge is located at photo14 height of 1780 m at northern slope of the Trans-Ili Alatau. If you decide to relax in this beautiful place, then your best option is to get to st. Navoi and we go up. When you get to the eco-post, here you will need to pay a small amount of money, about 300 tenge per person, we get to the fork and eat straight. Then the road ends at the Almarasan (former) sanatorium. Previously, the Almarasan sanatorium was very popular, since the famous Alma-Arasan thermal-radon sulfur springs come to the surface in the gorge, on the basis of which the Alma-Arasan resort was created. But unfortunately in recent years, most of the sources have disappeared. But here, you can just enjoy nature and take a break from the bustle of the city, or you can have a delicious meal by barbecuing. A hiking trail goes higher up, along which you can get to the “Alyoshkin Bridge”, and then to the “Zhusaly-Kezen” pass. The Alma-Arasan gorge is characterized by a mountain-meadow landscape and dissected relief. The vegetation of the gorge is mainly a spruce forest, but there are quite interesting shrubs: raspberries, honeysuckle, rose hips, hawthorn. Holidays in the Alma-Arasanovsky Gorge are a pleasure because the air is mountainous and there are many cloudless days. The left tributary of the Bolshaya Almatinka flows through the gorge, the river is passable, transparent and icy. And in the east is the Ozernaya River. In the foothills they merge, forming Big Almaty. The western gorge is called Prokhodny, and it is along it that the shortest walking route from Almaty to the high-mountain lake Issyk-Kul passes.
