In Kazakhstan, more than 4000 reservoirs have been built in which fresh water is stored. Among the largest reservoirs of Kazakhstan, the following are distinguished: Bukhtarminskoe river. Irtysh, VKO; Kapchagayskoye r. Ili, Almaty region; Shardarinskoe r. Syrdarya, Yuko; Koksaraiskoe r. Syrdarya, Yuko; Sergeevskoye r. Ishim, SCO; Karatomarskoe r. Tobol, Kostanay region; Samarkand r. Nura, Karaganda region, Bogenskoye p. Bogen, Yuko; Vyacheslavskoye r. Ishim, Akmola region; Kirovskoe r. Kushum, ZKO ; Toparskoe (Sherubai-Nurinskoe) r. Nura, Karaganda region; Kengirskoe r. Kengir, Karaganda region; Ust-Kamenogorsk r. Irtysh, VKO. Among the largest reservoirs is Bukhtarminskoe, its area is 5500 sq. km. Then comes the Kapchagai reservoir and the Shardarin reservoir with a water area of 1847 sq. km. and 900 sq km respectively. The deepest are Bukhtarminskoe, Kapchagayskoe and Ust-Kamenogorsk with a depth of 80 meters, 43 and 45 meters respectively.
The Bukhtarma and Kapchagai reservoirs are actively used for recreation. Especially Kapchagai, since over 150 recreation centers have been built on its coast. There are a lot of people here in the summer, both Almaty residents and tourists from other regions of Kazakhstan and the CIS countries come to relax at the Kapchagai reservoir. The northern coast is especially popular; many elite recreation centers are located here, but you can also relax on the Kapchagai reservoir as a savage. For a reasonable fee, the local population is ready to provide you with a minimum of comfortable services. But the beaches here are sandy, and the sun-warmed sand is pleasant and healthy.
The Bukhtarma Reservoir is also popular for recreation for both Kazakhstanis and Russians. They come here to relax in the picturesque nature of East Kazakhstan. Rest on the Bukhtarma reservoir will be interesting for fishing lovers, because there are a lot of different fish. But beach holidays are also popular in Bukhtarma; the most suitable months for such holidays are July and August.
