Pigeons of Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is rich in a wide variety of birds. One of the most frequently encountered birds in our country is the pigeon. This bird is considered a symbol of peace and love. There are about 300 species of pigeons in the world. Many species of pigeons live on the territory of the republic. These are: rocky, gray, brown and white-breasted pigeon.

The brown pigeon nests in southern and southeastern Kazakhstan. This type of pigeon is rare. Inhabits groves and tugai thickets. They can be found in small groups of ten birds. They nest in trees or small crevices. The color of adult birds is gray-gray with a brownish coating. The number of these pigeons is decreasing every day. The brown pigeon is listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan.

The wild rock pigeon nests in the mountains or foothills. They live in the south and east of the republic. The color is gray with a purple, copper tint on the neck. The rock pigeon is a sedentary bird. It nests in caves, crevices, and old burial grounds.

Rock pigeons live in mountainous areas. They are very similar to the Gray, but it has a distinctive white stripe on its tail. In Altai, these pigeons live at an altitude of 1500-1800 meters. In the Tien Shan at an altitude of more than 2000 meters. They nest in pairs or small groups.

Today, pigeon breeding has begun to develop at a rapid pace in Kazakhstan. Various exhibitions and festivals are held, which attract pigeon lovers from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia. There are various associations of pigeon breeders. Such events are often held in Shymkent, Semey and Petropavlovsk. Such exhibitions have been taking place in Petropavlovsk for more than 30 years.
